I wanted to assure that our boats would be finished today, so we had our unit of inquiry first thing in the morning. Everyone ran through buoyancy tests with the weights on their boats. Improvements were applied and the boats will be ready to have their official test tomorrow. Also, students were able to complete their art from last week with the remaining time.
During math, the grade 5's worked from their homework book on p. 24 #1 and 2 and p. 25 #1-7 and SYT. They were finishing up the work on multiplying using multiples of 10. The grade 6's took up questions on mental math before learning about order of operations. They used the BEDMAS acronym (minus the "E") to help them solve questions on p. 24 #1 and 2.
At the end of the day we discussed the chapter 6 answers in language. I was very impressed with the answers I heard in class. Students then read and answered questions for chapter 7. They also completed the written response which was a response letter to the "Friends of the Museum."
