The students began reading Shannen and the Dream for School. The novel retells the story of Shannen and
her efforts to lobby the Canadian government to build a new school. She is a advoacte for children's rights and
spearheaded the movement to have a school built in Attawapiskat First Nation, Northern Ontario.
As an introduction the students discussed the characteristics of a safe and comfy school.
They were surprised to know that the basic necessities were denied to the children in this story.
