Students were assigned unit 10 in their language skills book since there wasn't French. After a half an hour of work, we went to gym. Following a 15 lap warm up and 10 push ups and sit ups, the students were divided into two teams and learned how to play a zone defense for basketball. The other team would pass the ball around and defensive players moved into their correct positions on the floor. Both groups were able to practice defending before I allowed the offensive team to try and score. Next day we will be able to play a game.
Grade 5's continued working from their math homework book on p. 129. They were also assigned p. 312/313 #1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10 in their textbook. Grade 6's had their perimeter questions taken up and then added the formula for the area of a rectangle to their formula page. Karlynn and Abby did a great job developing the formula by figuring out that you need to count the squares to determine area and that multiplying would be easier than counting. They were given p. 134 #1 and p. 135 #1-4 for homework.
We went over to the library after lunch so the students could do a book exchange. Then went back to the classroom to discuss how we were going to present the learner profile and attribute for the first of the month assembly. Grade 6's then read and answered questions for chapter 6 of their novel in language, while the grade 5's had chapter 5 taken up. We ended the class with a discussion about leukemia and how Sadako could have gotten it.
The unit of inquiry was the last class of the day. Students are getting close to completing their plans, with a couple students even finished.
