Students started the day in their dance groups, practicing for their presentations on Friday. That was followed by language. Students were given a writing assignment that compliments the narrative work we have been doing. The basic idea is that each student will write a short narrative about a dragon. Grade 5's will write theirs from the perspective of the dragon and grade 6's will write a legend about how it acquired one of its features.
We began our new unit in math, decimals. The students practiced converting decimals to fractions/mixed numbers and vice versa. They also looked at place value and what each place represents.
At the end of the day we saw most of the picture essays in the unit of inquiry. We learned about Passover, Rosh Hashanah, the Lantern Festival and a Sikh wedding. The groups showed their pictures and explained what everyone was seeing. They also took questions to clarify anything someone may have missed.
Please remember that the Mt. St. Louis ski day has been moved to after the break. Also, another trip permission form was sent home today as we will be travelling to St. Jude's to watch a combined speech competition.
