First thing this morning we did our boat testing in the unit of inquiry. I knew the students would be excited and would want to get right to it. We began by discussing how the boat should be graded.  We decided on buoyancy, stability, knowledge, materials/construction and modifications. Each group had a turn to add weight to the boat to see how much it could hold. All the boats held up great.
In math, grade 5's had work taken up and then had a lesson on using mental math to multiply. We went over 3 strategies. The first was to break apart one number, multiply, then add. A second was to divide one number by 2, then multiply the other by 2. The third was to round and then either subtract or add. They were given p. 26 #1 and p. 27 #1 to practice. The grade 6's finished up questions from their homework book and then started some in their textbook. We'll continue with those on Monday.
We had enough time left in our day to have language and to take up the questions from chapter 7 in "The Mixed Up Files" before birthday circle.
Students were with Mrs. Ruby for the last period of the day.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather!
