We started our morning by finishing chapter one from our story, "From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler," in language. The students were assigned questions 1-8. We discussed the first two questions as a group and the students were responsible for completing the rest for tomorrow.
In math, everyone was assigned questions from the textbook. The grade 5's were given p. 30 #1-4 and 7. The grade 6's were asked to do p. 41 #1-3, 5-7. All the questions were completed in class and will be taken up tomorrow.
During the unit of inquiry, the students saw a demonstration about how solids and liquids maintain their volume, but that a gas can be compressed. We concluded our discussion on the characteristics of the different states of matter. To finish the class, we made a mixture of Borax and water and observed how it featured properties of both solids and liquids.
Each student was given a letter and a pledge sheet for the Terry Fox Run. It will be a special year this year because The Maples will go over $100 000 in total donations to help find a cure for cancer. Also, please remember that tomorrow is picture day and remember to send in your class basket donation if you have not done so already.
