We began the day smiling since we had our school photo taken. Everyone looked sharp in their ties and jackets.
In language, the students were given a choice of two writing tasks related to the novel. They could either describe Claudia or write a diary entry about the plan to run away from Claudia's perspective. Most students shared their writing. We also took up questions from chapter 1, read chapter 2 and started questions for chapter 2.
The grade 6's were able to take up their math and start right into their next set of questions. They were assigned p. 37 #1, 3-7 and 10. The grade 5's had their work taken up, made corrections and then discovered how to use mental math and learned why it's important. They were not assigned work and will start tomorrow.
Our unit of inquiry centred around changes of state in matter. We used water as an example since it is the most commonly observed in the three states. We discussed what it takes to go from one state to another and then back. After, the students watched a demonstration of how boiling water and ice can be used to create condensation which is what happens when steam turns back into water. We concluded the class by applying this knowledge to answer the question "Why do cold drinks sweat?"
