Many children's stories come from simple problems that are exaggerated and made more entertaining. Today in language, the students made a list of everyday problem and then asked to develop a story around one of them. They also used the idea of repeating story patterns to model many children's books. They will have the opportunity to share their stories during another period.
With the Christmas concert over, the gym was again available so we had a floor hockey game.
Both grades received a lesson on mean and mode in math, with the grade 6's also learning about median. We practiced using a set of data before both grades answered questions from their textbook. The grade 5's were assigned p. 162 #1-5 and the grade 6's were given p. 174/175 #1-3.
In the unit of inquiry, the students developed a list of question that they wanted to know about the systems in the human body. They wrote down these questions and will use them to guide their research for their slide presentation about their chosen system. Groups had time to work together to begin gathering research.
