The grade 5's were able to start right away with reading chapter 3 of "Sadako" in language. Everyone was able to finish the work quickly and we could look at answers. The grade 6's had chapter 2 taken up before being assigned chapter 3.
It was review day in math. Both groups worked on the "Show What You Know" section at the back of the chapter. They were encouraged to work on the most difficult questions in class, so that they could ask for assistance if they had any questions. Students will have an opportunity to ask any questions before we begin the math test.
In the unit of inquiry, I compared a clogging drain to a clogging artery. We discussed why people have heart attacks and looked at risk factors such as genetics, diet and lack of exercise. We mentioned foods that are good for our bodies, as well as ones that aren't so great. We also compared cardiovascular exercise to resistance exercise and I explained why both are necessary. Students will be making a menu plan of healthy food and also developing a week long exercise program.
