UOI - the Exhibition
It was the first full day of classes. Welcome back!

The focus of today's lessons was an introduction to the Exhibition project.

This year's theme is Sharing the Planet.

An inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other
people and with other living things; communities and the relationships within and between
them; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution.

Special Event
The Maples Academy was privileged welcome back Mr. Keith Palmer. He is the director of Dufferin County Community Services and his topic of discussion was 'Poverty'. The students were willing participants in his social experiment. The aim of the exercise was to create a system where the students competed for a prize. They were either limited or had a significant advantage because there was a clear distinction between the 'haves' and 'havenots'. The students explored what access to opportunity looks  like and some barriers to opportunity.

The room was buzzing with discussion and critical thinking. Thank you Mr. Palmer for continuing to support our students educational journey.

Music
As usual after lunch the students had music lessons with Mrs. Angus. Parents please check their agenda to see which pieces they have been asked to practice.

UOI
The last period was used to unpack the theme and brainstorm some initial topics.
