Dear parents,
Welcome to grade six
for the 2018 - 2019 academic year.
I would like to take
the opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Aldaine Hunt. I will be
entering my fourth-year teaching at The Maples Academy. Teachers and parents
work closely as a team towards a shared objective: for each pupil; a year of
challenge; growth and success. A positive feature of our school is the close relationship
between teachers and the parent community. It is a delight to have such
supportive parents and I look forward to building and strengthening my
partnership with you.
This summer I was fortunate enough to spend my time with family, travelling
and developing curriculum. This year I will be responsible for teaching
mathematics, language (including Daily 5, spelling and language skills) and Unit
of Inquiry through the IB programme. The instruction of French will be taught
by Mme. Villeneuve and instrumental Music by Mrs. Demetriou. Visual Art will be
delivered once a week by Jada Doucette. Physical and Health Education will be
taught by Miss. Cranfield. Additionally, our classroom has relocated to
portable 2.
You can look forward to an exciting year of learning, growth,
exploration and inquiry.
Classroom Expectations
Homework
Students will be expected to complete all homework before assigned
deadlines. Please do not hesitate to contact me to schedule support or
alternative arrangements if any challenges arise. Incomplete homework will be
completed in their own time during recess break, before or after school (if
applicable). You can expect to have regular, math, spelling words and
unit of inquiry homework assignments. Please kindly note that incomplete
classwork will be assigned as homework. Class time will ALWAYS be allocated to
complete assignments.
Agendas
Students are encouraged to use agendas as an organizational tool to keep
up to date with homework and assessment deadlines. Daily homework and upcoming
will be posted on the blog daily.
Housekeeping for the 1st week,
Parents and students need to review the Student Handbook and School Code
of Conduct. A signature page at the back must be returned to school by Friday
September 7th, 2018.
The units of inquiry this year will include A Voyage back of time, What’s
