With the grade 6 comprehension test coming on Thursday, the students went and finished the rest of the book in language. The grade 5's revisited all the elements of narrative, including the introduction, the problem and the resolution. We also talked about how the purpose of a narrative is to entertain and provide descriptive language. As a group, we looked at how to create a story about a paper airplane. We used a story web to list all the things that would be fun about being a paper airplane and the potential negatives. We also wrote down descriptive words that could be used in the story. The grade 5's were also returned their "Sadako" comprehension tests.
The grade 6's left to complete surface area questions in math with Mrs. Ruby, while the grade 5's took up the area questions that they completed last week. The emphasis was following writing down the formula and using it as its stated. We then began learning how to find the area of irregular shapes.
At the end of the day, the students shared what they researched about the rules/guidelines of various religions in the unit of inquiry. We looked at similarities and differences before looking at the life guidelines of Buddhism.
