Even though it was Wednesday, our day was scheduled very much like a Thursday due to skiing tomorrow.
After going over literature circle jobs in language, students started reading the first section of their books and were asked to complete their first job to present at a discussion on Friday. We talked about making sure the work was finished with quality in mind and not just quickly.
Grade 6's took up their work in math from the previous day and then looked at how to multiply decimal numbers by a one digit whole number. They learned where to place the decimal in the answer and then practiced with questions from their textbook on p. 149 #1, 3, 5-8, 12. Grade 5's took what they learned yesterday about multiplying by 10's and applied in reverse for dividing. The completed questions from their homework book on p. 62 #1 and p. 63 #2, 4, 5, 7. They also worked on textbook questions on p. 145 #3-6. Students who finished early tried some challenge questions on p. 147.
Students brainstormed possible topics for the exhibition in the unit of inquiry. They presented their research findings and, as a class, we discussed what these ideas were about and why they made for good topics.
Students going on the bus for tomorrow's ski trip need to remember that the bus is leaving at 7:30 and will return at 4:30.
