Let the novel studies begin, Monday May 11th, 2015

It was a foggy Monday morning at The Maples so we had an indoor gym lesson. Thank you to Abbie who led the stretches.

Our fitness circuit was intense. At the last station Oliver almost ran out of gas but managed to dig deep and finish all of his exercises. Excellent effort!
In this edition of European handball green was victorious over yellow. The green team played with spectacular chemistry. The passing was incredible and it showed in the score. Morgan, Ben, Cole, Ella, Abbie and Karlynn were a team.
Play of the match goes to Ben with a miraculous 10 touch save.
After recess we had show and share. Ben presented his photo book/photo album from his trip to India. There were some stunning pictures of the Taj Mahal.
This weekend Karlynn went to the Girls Hockey-fest in Toronto. Which is a charity event put on by Scotia bank and the Toronto Furies where she met players from both the Women’s national team, and the Toronto Furies. She also showed us the autographed jersey she received.

Today’s was a double math lesson as the topics taught to both grades begin to diverge.
Grade 5’s – learnt about relating fractions to decimals
Grade 6’s learnt about addition of fractions. Building on previous concepts students add the numerators of like fractions and made equivalent fractions from unlike fractions before adding them together.
In English the students were introduced to the new literature for the next unit. The students will be reading 3 novels selected for the students to challenge them. The novels are; Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, the Teacher’s Funeral by Richard Peck, and Up the Road slowly by Irene Hunt.
The students took up language skills 14 and submitted written expressions for grading. The students took the last 15 minutes to organize their surveys for the Exhibition.

During Unit of inquiry students worked on their presentations and movies. They also created graphs and tabulated the results of their surveys.
Tonight all efforts in homework should be towards the exhibition.
