It was a bit too cold to be running outside in shorts today, so we had gym inside. The students played a game of indoor soccer with "Franklin", an oversized tennis ball. They were able to bounce the ball off the walls and no one, even the goalie, was allowed to use their hands.
The grade 5's continued using compensation and adding on in math to mentally solve addition questions. They were assigned p. 12 #1 and 2 in their homework book. The grade 6's learned about multiples. They began work on p. 44 #1-3 in their textbook.
In language, we took up the questions from the third chapter. They are working on responding to all parts of the questions and not just the first part. After, we completed a writing activity that asked the students to describe events, thoughts and feelings as if they were a character from the story. They had an opportunity to read their writing aloud and they were quite creative and believable.
Our art lesson used oil pastel as the medium. It centred around colouring in one direction, making the picture look smooth and blending and shading to add depth. The students are recreating the classic painting "The Scream" by Edvard Munch. They will have a chance to finish it next art period.
Students were sent home with a hard copy of the Code of Conduct. Please sign and return the loose page to indicate that you have seen it. We went over the document together as a class today.
Also, please remember that next Friday is our Terry Fox run. Donations to the Terry Fox Foundation can be brought in with the pledge sheet anytime.
Have a great weekend!
