The first language skills lesson was due today. Both groups had theirs taken up and corrected. We also discussed the questions from chapter #2 of our novel and talked about improving our answers by adding more detail and remembering to answer all parts of the question.
The grade 5's had to finish their math lesson from yesterday before they could begin answering some questions on mental math. We talked about the practical uses of mental math and how it could benefit us in our daily lives, whether at school, in a store or at work. They were assigned p. 32/33 #1, 2, 3, 5. The grade 6's had yesterday's work corrected before they moved onto the homework book. The completed questions #1 and 2 on both p. 14 and 15.
In our unit of inquiry, we placed ice cubes on a balance scale and melted them with a heat lamp. We discovered what happens to the weight of ice (solid) when it changes state to water (liquid). After we observed what happened, the question became "WHY?"
