At our first of the month assembly the students heard about knowledge and independence. They also played some house games that they all seemed to enjoy.
Following the assembly we started language, where we made a mock interview with Santa Claus. The students were responsible for coming up with the interview questions, as well as the answers they felt that Santa would provide.
Even though it was quite cold, the students still wanted to go outside for gym. We played soccer for probably the last time this year.
In math, the grade 5's worked on more estimation of quotients. They practiced on p. 62/63 #1-4 and 7. The grade 6's had work taken up and then they were introduced to dividing by a 2 digit number. They only had an opportunity to work on two questions from their homework book.
We have been having a lot of demonstrations in class for our unit of inquiry. So today I decided to let the students create the demonstration. We first discussed how submarines work. Then the students attempted to create a diver with a pen lid in a water bottle. The goal was to get the pen lid to initially float, then dive down to the bottom and finally resurface. So far, only one group has been able to complete the task, but hopefully the other two groups will be able to make it work tomorrow. They used the directions from an experiment book to try and make it happen.
