This morning while I took up language skills with the grade 6's, the grade 5's read chapter 10 of "The Mixed Up Files." Later in the day, the two grades switched jobs and the grade 5's took up language skills while the grade 6's read.
The grade 5's put up multiplication answers on the board and checked their work in math. They were able to see the rows of multiplication and the addition to compare to theirs. They went on to complete the textbook work which was #3 and #6. The grade 6's had their addition and subtraction taken up before completing p. 26 #1 and p. 27 #1-3 in their homework book. We are inching closer to the end of the unit with only a couple lessons left. I would expect some testing to occur after the Thanksgiving weekend.
To conclude the day, the class went outside for the unit of inquiry to watch a chemical reaction happen inside a sealed plastic bag. We were hoping that there would be a big explosion, unfortunately the bag only swelled up and sprung a small leak and let the gas out slowly. Even though it was anticlimactic, it was still interesting to see the gas fill the bag.
Please remember that tomorrow is a half day because of Fall Festival set up.
