To start the day, while one grade was writing their descriptive paragraphs for language, the other grade had their language skills taken up. We will be sharing descriptive paragraphs on Monday.
In math, the grade 5's answered questions from their homework book and played a math game, while the grade 6's had a lesson on constructing triangle and quadrilaterals with a compass and a protractor. Grade 6's were assigned p. 38 #1 and p. 39 #1-3 from their homework book. After, the grade 5's had some of their work taken up before the end of class. The rest will be corrected on Monday.
For the unit of inquiry, students viewed pictures from a vacation that I took to Egypt, Rome and Greece. I had was able to show them views of places they were studying from different perspectives than they could see in books. Several questions were asked and they were interested in the history behind the ancient sites.
We switched between to activities at the end of the day. Partners worked together in art to build a structure from wooden blocks. They had 5 minutes to build the most visually appealing building they could. They really demonstrated the idea of symmetry in their structures. While a groups was working on art, the rest were helping to create the script for our Christmas concert performance.
