We had our first of the month assembly this morning. The grade 1/2 class presented the IB attitude and learner profile skill. We also had house games with all houses participating well and having fun.
When we got back to class, we had language and the students read their descriptive paragraphs. The class expressed what they liked about the paragraphs and what could be improved. During our conversations, the topic of similes and metaphors came up. I decided that the students could practice making a few to get the idea. They will share what they came up with tomorrow.
Just before recess we had gym. Teams were made and students played a game of floor hockey. We will continue to play floor hockey until at least Christmas break.
In the afternoon, we continued our geography unit in math. Students were informed that there would probably be a math test next Monday to wrap up the unit. Grade 6's answered more questions on constructing shapes with a compass and a protractor. They had to finish at least 4 questions from the textbook and the rest will be completed tomorrow. Grade 5's had the rest of their work from last week taken up before having a lesson on constructing triangles with a ruler and a protractor. They were assigned p. 42 and 43 in their homework book.
The last part of the day was used for drama to practice our Christmas Concert presentation of "Eleven on the Sled". Everyone was given a script that we read through several times. The students have been asked to go over it in order to memorize the lines.
