Our class' Christmas concert performance is coming along well. Everyone knows where to go and has memorized at least the first part of the script. All students should be practicing tonight and have it entirely memorized for tomorrow's practice.
In language, we made a list of children's books and authors that the students enjoyed when they were younger. We then looked at what made them so successful and fun to read. We compiled a list of 5 common traits that authors use to create a concept for a children's book. The class will be investigating this genre further and eventually, creating their own book.
The grade 6's were assigned p. 104/104 #1-4 and 6 from their textbook in math. The grade 5's received a lesson on nets of 3-D shapes. They were each given a plastic shape and asked to look at the 2-D shapes that made up the complete 3-D shape. We made drawings that showed what the 3-D shapes would look like if they were taken apart and laid flat. They were assigned questions on p. 100/101 #1-6 from the textbook and p. 44 #1 and p. 45 #1, SYT from their homework book. Tomorrow, both grades will be doing the review in the back of the chapter.
After an extended music class to practice their songs for the Christmas concert, I introduced our new unit of inquiry topic. The class will be studying the human body and its major systems. The students were asked what questions they had about the human body to help focus our studies.
