We began the day with the unit of inquiry and the human body's systems. The main question of the class was how the human body came to be as it is today. A student asked if we could have more arms, so we discussed what changes would have to occur for the human body to be able to support this change. We focused our thoughts on the needs of a human body and it's function. Looking at the idea of function, students were paired together to compare human body systems to something that works in a similar way. For example, comparing the skeletal system to the wooden frame of a house as they both provide a solid structure and shape.
After a brief practice of our Christmas concert performance, the students completed unit 8 of language skills.
The first part of the afternoon was spent at the Christmas concert performance for the grandparents and students of St. Jude's. Our class did a great job with their play and their instruments.
In language, we moved class to library so that students could select a children's book that they enjoyed when they were younger. They gave a summary of the story to the class and provided reasons why they enjoyed the book and why they thought other people liked it too.
