We had an extended math period this morning. Both grades looked at when to use certain types of graphs, how to calculate a range, what a trend is and the grade 6's gave examples of inferencing information from a graph. The grade 5's were assigned p. 158/159 #1-4 in the textbook and the grade 6's were assigned p. 170/171 #1-5, also in from their textbook.
I asked the students to come up with a way to explore the systems in the body more in depth for the unit of inquiry. They came to the conclusion that making PowerPoint presentations would be a good idea. They wanted to become experts about a specific system and share it with the rest of the class. So we made small groups, they chose a system that they were most interested in and now they will research and present their findings.
Students continued writing their story proposals in language. Everyone was able to finish an example of all 5 types before the end of class. They will be sharing them tomorrow.
Remember that tomorrow is the Christmas lunch. I hope everyone enjoyed the snowy day and made it home safe.
