Gym class began with a 15 lap jog and 10 push ups. The students then formed a layup line and tried to collectively make 15 layups in 2 minutes. They were only able to reach 10, but they gave a good effort. After, we went over the shooting motion, focusing on using the legs to get power and arc on the shot, while using their hand to create backspin.
Math tests were handed back today and put into the student work binders. Students then had an opportunity to look over the new unit test and determine what they would need to know to complete it. We made the checklist for the unit and the grade 5's received a lesson on linear dimensions, while the grade 6's listened for a quick review. Grade 5's were assigned p. 309/310 #1-3, 5 and 6 from their textbook. Grade 6's developed two formulas for calculating perimeter.
In language, we chose prompters for the speech presentations tomorrow and also determined an order. Students who weren't able to get up and say some of their speech had a chance to do so today. Also, some students requested a second try at speaking in front of an audience. Language ended with the grade 5's reading and answering questions for chapter 5 and the grade 6's having their work taken up.
Students continued work on their healthy menu and exercise program in the unit of inquiry. The goal is to have this project wrapped up before the end of the week.
Hope to see you tomorrow at the speech presentations. Also, I will be making monthly phone calls soon, so please let me know when you are available to talk.
