I hope everyone's Christmas break was fun and restful. Our first day back started with an assembly in the gym. The topics of the month that were presented were being a risk taker and showing enthusiasm. After, Mrs. Ruby led the school in some house games.
When we finally started class, the students began with math. I thought it was best to review some of the material we already practiced before the break. We went over reading and interpreting graphs, as well as mean, median and mode. Next, we went through all the necessary parts of a graph and specifically looked at the vertical axis and how to properly display scale. Tomorrow students will graph data using either a bar or line graph.
In gym, we played a couple of different games of dodgeball. First, we played bowling pin dodgeball where the objective is to either knock down the other teams bowling pins or get all the other team out. The other type of dodgeball we played is called jailbreak dodgeball. It is similar to bowling pin dodgeball where the goal is to knock down the other teams' pins, but in this game, there are 4 teams and everyone is playing against each other. When a person is hit, they go to "jail" until jailbreak is yelled and everyone is back in the game.
The afternoon featured group work in both language and the unit of inquiry. The students worked on a children's book proposal with their partner in language. They needed to make sure they explained the problem, characters and plot. And in the unit of inquiry, they were using the computers to create their slideshows to present the body system that they chose.
We weren't able to get outside today for recess because of the extreme cold, so as you can see from the pictures, the laptops became quite popular.
