The extreme cold has kept the students in for another day today. Also, the ski trip at Hockley that was planned for tomorrow has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 13th.
We warmed up this morning with math. Grade 6's continued with their textbook work from yesterday completing questions #4 and 6. The grade 5's had their textbook work taken up and were then assigned p. 68 and 69 in their homework book.
We started our basketball unit in gym. The students began with laps around the gym and then ran some sprints. The first technique we practiced was the chest pass, both passing and receiving.
After our library book exchange, the students came back and worked on their slideshow for the unit of inquiry. We will be presenting on Friday. Groups are at various stages with some finishing up the initial organization and others being generally complete and looking for areas to improve.
During our language period I spoke with entire class about where everyone is on their speech and where they needed to be. At the very latest, everyone should have their speech written by Friday, January 16th. That would give students a week and half to memorize and practice presentation skills. We should have an extra period tomorrow that we can devote to speeches. Also, students worked with their partners on their children's book. Most groups are currently peer editing and receiving constructive criticism from classmates.
